Too many things happening at the same time. The political situation in our country reached another cornerstone, so it made much more sense to us (it's not about independence, but about human rights and justice this time) to be on the streets that planning a jukebox. Then some work turmoil, plus an ear infection… But the tunes were there and, after the somewhat 'forced' hiatus, here we are, back with our TOP TEN JUKEBOX. Almost two weeks have passed of our latest TOP TEN JUKEBOX, fourteen days that have been one of the most stressful and sad that we have ever lived. It's never easy to say goodbye to someone you loved and raised you. But, despite the pain, we have managed to list another ten excellent songs for you to listen. Because music, like the memories, moments and the feelings shared, will always be with us, specially indie pop and jangle pop, two styles that are all around this Blog and on this week's playlist. Also, we haven't forgotten that today is the Record Store Day so, what a better way to cheer-up us than with good music? It's been somewhat of a struggle finding the time to keep writing (life seems to be getting in their way more frequently) and maintaining a "sustainable" pace of updates at the Blog. We'll try, promise. But that doesn't mean we ain't listening to new, exciting music, ready to be gathered and packed in a flamboyant new TOP TEN JUKEBOX for your ears only. This week we have a pretty even combination of beloved names such as Martha Ffion, Shana Cleveland or She Sir, alongside most promising newcomers (with a double dose of "local product"). Plus a very special closing tune: the cover of Teenage Fanclub's 'Broken' made by fans as a way to say goodbye to founding member Gerard Love late last year. Spanish Indie 32: suggesting the best national acts

As we are doing with our "worldwide series", it's time to reinvigorate our national discoveries section. But before digging into 2018, here's a must needed review of three favourites, three mind-blowing debut records from past year that couldn't be missed. Fall in love with them!

Últim Cavall. Just had to write this down. They deserve it, and I kind of owe it to them. Because this first album, 'Records de Kyoto' was one of the most listened by your humble blogger last year. Hailing from Garraf, Barcelona, this quintet came out of the blue with a self-titled and self-released EP in September of 2015, with the aforementioned record appearing in March of 2017 via our dear Discos de Kirlian. Somewhere in between shoegaze & dreampop, their music is warm, melodic, fragile and electric at the same time, cinematic, extremely exciting and evocative, a distant soundtrack for a vanishing city, blurred but still very much alive. Like the tunes of this phenomenal band. Not to be missed. 
Hank Idory. Quick drive to Valencia to meet musician Juancho Alegrete, his Bowiesque nickname and, foremost, his wonderful self-titled debut record, out since October via (couldn't be any other way, it's a match made in music heaven) our beloved Pretty Olivia Records. Carefully crafted, gentle, warm and inviting from the very first spin, 'Hank Idory' is a treaty, a masterclass of sunshine pop, echoing the 60s tradition in what it sounds, feels and looks like an act of love for the lost art of creating moving songs. Full or lushy arrangements (mellotrons, violins, harpsichords) as well as vocal harmonies and indelible guitar lines, here you have ten gems to still believe in music and its healing powers...

Melenas. And we end in Pamplona, Navarra. to meet this all- female quartet (with members of must-listen bands like Río Arga and Ginkas) that began clicking cylinders during the summer of 2016, along the tunes composed by vocalist and guitarist Oihana and her meetings (and concert-going) with bassist Leire, keyboardist María and drummer Laura at the bar-music venue Nebula club. Less than a year later, and with some exciting buzz anticipating it, here's their self-titled debut album, released past September via El Nébula Recordings, Elsa Records and Snap Clap Club. The hype, for once is more than deserved. Knockout tunes, shiny, round and addictive, somewhere in between Heavenly (yes!) and Kokoshca, with hints of some garage forgotten band from the nuggets-era that didn't lose the knack for melodies, plus some slightly psychedelic and/or passages. Whatever the form, instant pop pills. What a debut...

Yep, today is Thursday, but here we are, ready to unveil our TOP TEN Jukebox already! Why, you ask? What's the reason for this change of day? Well, we have an extremely exciting weekend ahead that includes...attending The National gig in Lisbon! But don't worry: we are going to leave you in great hands, thanks to the excellent company of our beloved Sufjan Stevens, the new, arresting single of Line & Circle (one of our favourite 'newcomers', for sure), the comeback of Tennis and terrific discoveries like Patsy's Rats. We have tried, promise. We have tried not to talk about the TOPIC, but in fact it's quite difficult not to think, feel and breathe "about" this Catalonia-Spain situation... This time we have our beloved Sharon Van Etten 'revisiting' us with her always perfect tunes, but also a Seattle riot grrrl band called Who is she?, an Antipodean touch thanks to Last Leaves or the Swedish band Stars in Coma. An amazing global playlist for this crazy weeks of raising flags and actually doing & saying nothing...
