Back to reality after a brief holiday break with the batteries recharged for what's coming next (promises of change in the horizon). The Bloodbuzzed Jukebox Week 107

With #Brexit and our own election day coming tomorrow was unsure you people were going to be in the mood for a a new TOP TEN Jukebox and, therefore, had my doubts about whether or not to post it. Agenda of Concerts Winter-Spring 2016

Keeping with the Blog traditions, here it's our Agenda of Concerts for Winter and Spring seasons (check the list of Fall 2013 and Winter 2015) of 2016. Aside of the possible ones, there are some mandatory gigs, with bands that we have been waiting to see for a long time, like Tinderstick or Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott, indispensable yearly festivals like the Minifestival de Música Independent de Barcelona and special concerts like Robert Forster or the El Genio Equivocado Fest. Obviously, this isn't a closed agenda, and we hope to add more proposals soon. Have a look and see you there!

A quick post on some of the most exciting comebacks/ music news happening right now. Hope you enjoy!

Swedish craftsmanships Turn Off Your Television are back with "Blanket of Shame", first single in anticipation of their forthcoming album, "Humble Waves", out in October 8th, and again available for download freely. They seem to openly embrace indiepop territory in the song, which fits the band extremely well. They have been gifted with a talent for melody and warmth, amplified to masterly levels here. What a terrific advance of the album, can't wait for it!

Without moving from the gorgeous Sweden we meet again Kristian Matsson, famously known as The Tallest Man on Earth. "There's No Leaving Now" is his new record, out since June, on which you can find folk gems like this "Revelation Blues", here on a quite special performance (courtesy of City of Music).


Another ace tune from my beloved Paolo and Claire, aka Young Romance. "Lines" tries a bit to take off, resembling too much to a Tennis song (which is not bad per se, but not very original). But the spark, that fire the couple have injected to all their songs to date, arrives, and when it does, its unstoppable. Their music enlightens any room, shimmers. Oops, they did it again!

And finally, the great Amelia Fletcher has returned. The new Tender Trap album, "Ten Songs About Girls", out on Fortuna Pop! " is full of amazing tunes (as expected). Just hear the upbeat, lush and effervescent opener "King's Cross Station" and tell me you don't like it (if so, sorry, but you are probably deaf then).

Autumn 2012: agenda of concerts

September is just around the corner. So, in order to avoid the inevitable depression, and the huge VAT increase (courtesy of our beloved government who doesn't consider music as culture) in two days, is a good occasion to take a look to the forthcoming concerts that I hope to attend until the end of the year. Spanish Indie 3: suggesting the best national acts

After a nice demand to keep this proposal of national indie bands going, here you have three more bands/artists I recommend you to check!

Violet Lades. Violeta Hernando comes from Santa Cruz de Tenerife but her career began in 2006, between London and Barcelona, where she is currently based. A multi-faceted artist (also a photographer and writer) that defines herself as an "orphaned musician". But don't believe her. With a suggestive voice (true that has some resemblance with Patti Smith), a music vision that links her to Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan and most evidently, early PJ Harvey, and a rare talent to introduce you into a very personal, misterious and attractive world, who wouldn't want to adopt her? Check her album below!

Me and The Bees. Change of style for this charming band, that I really discovered at Primavera Sound. Since that gig, I have been listening regularly "Fuerza Bien", a debut album that I can't stop recommending. Less folky and mellow than expected, this is golden lo-fi indie-pop, devoted to bands like Pavement, Guided By Voices, The Breeders or The Pippettes playing real music, and full of killer little tunes. Listen to "After All Your Cancers", "Don't Come Back", "It Could Be Real", "Tibidabo" or "The Bags", fall in love with Esther's voice and get addicted to the bite of the "Bees".
 


Disco Las Palmeras!. I remember asking myself what was that brutal noise coming from the Ray-Ban stage on Saturday at Primavera Sound while I was hearing The Tallest Man on Earth at San Miguel stage. Now I know the answer, and it wasn't noise, but a promising band from Galicia, responsible of a terrific album, "Nihil Obstat", a mesmerizing collection of sharp psychedelic-rock and shoegazing tunes. Crude, somber, fuelled and coming from space. Music to leave you breathless. What a discovery!

Day 4 at Primavera Sound: Let the Festival shake

Folk-rock brilliance for a great Saturday at Primavera Sound!

The Good
Small band, great attitude. Must be hard to play in one of the smallest stages of the Festival, at the time the football match starts. But Deep Sea Arcade showed attitude, passion and upbeat melodies to forget about Messi for a while easily.
Stadium indie-folk: The Tallest Man on Earth proved that he is not only a man of talents, but also a great showman, and helped by a (surprisingly) enthusiast crowd, the Swedish gave us a great show. Later in the afternoon, Fleet Foxes doubled down and proved how uplifting is their music, I would say that even contagious: the songs from "Helplessness Blues", "Mykonos", "Your Protector" or "White Winter Hymn" shimmered on the open spaces, fuelled by the passionate sing-alongs of a pleased audience

The Bad
Warpaint: I was really looking forward to their concert....but they ruined it with an awful sounding, really harming for the ears and killing the amalgamation of guitars and harmonies that makes their psychedelic-rock so enjoyable. Only at considerable distance from the stage the gig was audible. Missed opportunity.

The Queen
PJ Harvey. The GREAT, EXTRAORDINARY PJ Harvey I should say. What a fantastic performance yesterday night. I had doubts about how the songs of "Let England Shake" were going to sound live, particularly at the main stage of the Festival, but by the time she played "The Words that Maketh Murder" it was clear the night was going to be unforgettable. A flawless, intense and enormous gig, with brutal performances of "Bitter Branches", "In the Dark Places", or classic renditions of "The Sky Lit Up" or "Big Exit" (to name a few). Truly amazing.

Discoverer Special: Primavera Sound new findings

For today's round of new findings I propose you bands that are playing at Primavera Sound Festival  2011. Some more excellent options among to choose to see live this coming week!

The Tallest Man On Earth. Among the bands discovered by now, there's a special place for Kristian Matsson, aka The Tallest Man on Earth. Hailing from Dalarna, Sweden, he's a young (just 28), modern era folkie troubadour, but not just one more to add to the bunch. His songwriting skills, his fingerpicking guitar style and his mesmerizing voice will translate you directly to another time, another place and another name: yes, Bob Dylan. But vocal similarities aside, I'm just using the comparison to highlight how big the talents of Matsson are. Best thing you can do is to judge yourself, checking his two albums and EPs. Eagerly awaiting to see him live on Saturday afternoon.

Deep Sea Arcade. This Australian (from Sidney) five-piece band will make you think immediately on the 60s and another mythical name: The Beatles. Luckily, there's a more adventurous music here, closer to the power-pop classicism and The Zombies psychedelia, but also to Bristol's sound or Air's ambient pop. What matters, though, is that whatever their approach is, the band always seems capable of transform it into an addictive pill of perfect indie-pop, with an unforgettable melody. Their debut album will be out on September, but I already guarantee you won't regret listen them now.

Las Robertas. This ridiculously young (the four members are well under 25) all-girl band comes from San José, Costa Rica, a place that you won't usually relate with the actual melodic lo-fi punk explosion. But they don't have anything to envy to Vivian Girls, Best Coast or the Dum Dum Girls. In fact, they have pretty distinctive sound, a bit darker (full of death references) and noisier, despite the mixture of wistful vocals harmonies and crunchier guitar riffs, reminiscent of Black Tambourine or Sonic Youth. Their debut album,"Cry Out Loud", was released last year, gaining the recognition such a collection of hits deserves.
